Akeem was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, and graduated with honors in high school. He then attended SOU on scholarship as a student-athlete. He participated in both football and track teams setting records and earning all-conference awards. Akeem earned his BS in health and physical education from SOU and later received a master’s in athletic administration and sports management from University of Concordia Irvine.
Akeem involves himself with coaching as a volunteer with high school and college sports. At Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Akeem works in pharmacy services. He manages billing, insurance, inventory and preparation of medication that occurs in the pharmacy department. When time permits, Akeem enjoys spending his free time with family and friends, skiing, hiking, outdoor sports or activities. He believes “time is an important aspect in life, we must use it in a way that is meaningful and productive.”
“SOU has helped me to achieve short and long-term goals post-graduation. As a student-athlete, I was able to gain a high level of education, as well as having fun by participating in sports. In addition, SOU also created opportunities where I could be involved with the community at all stages of life. I served youth and seniors as an instructor, mentor and coach at the YMCA, was involved in the Black Student Union, and performed at festivals and concerts throughout the year. If I can give the best terms to sum up my experience at SOU, they are leadership and the liberal arts. I entered the institute with low standard of these two qualities but departed with an enhanced understanding that took those qualities to a higher level. Thank you SOU for your impact on my life. I am forever grateful!”
