Michael was born in Ashland and grew up in the Rogue Valley, graduating Eagle Point High School in 2009. Afterwards, he moved to Grants Pass for a full time job at Fire Mountain Gems and worked for them over the next four years. By the summer of 2013, he wanted to grow in a new direction and enlisted in the Oregon Army National Guard. A year later, he applied to SOU and he has been attending full time/part time pursuing a degree in political science and stills serves in the National Guard.
Michael has been actively attempting to return Greek Life to SOU through Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) because his research on such groups shows increased student retention, a more involved-connected campus community, increased community service and stronger endowments due to the higher than average donors coming from these groups, actively giving back to their alma maters. He has been in touch with the Tau Kappa Epsilon Iota-Delta Chapter alumni who were present at SOU back when it was SOC and SOSC in the 1960s and 70s and they have been working together to return the chapter to campus with the help of other SOU staff. He sits on the SOU Alumni Board as a student representative in part because of this effort drawing current students and alumni together to better SOU.
“SOU has allowed me to see where my skills and abilities can be applied to help campus fill in the gaps between what students desire and the school’s administration needs. This opportunity has allowed me ways to apply what I’ve learned in the classroom to everyday life for the betterment of myself and campus while pursuing my degree.”
